Roan has 6 years of combined work experiences in three industries: Shipping, Manufacturing, and Government. During his employment, he has played various responsibilities, which include logistics, quality management, supervisory, vendor management, and knowledge management.
Today, he is a public servant. He works as a Knowledge Management (KM) senior executive in one of public agencies in Singapore. He is thrilled with the opportunity to practice KM and getting paid for it.
Roan Yong – the Knowledge Entrepreneur
The world constantly changes, and therefore, we need to continuously update our knowledge and reinvent ourselves in order to survive and succeed in life. – Roan Yong, 2009.
Roan is an avid reader since he was young. In recent years, he read books, magazines, and articles on the subject of Knowledge Management (KM), Information Management and Technology, Social Computing (web 2.0), Investment, and Marketing.
He received his training in KM at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, from 2006 to 2008. To refine his knowledge and to contribute to the society, he – eversince his graduation - has externalised his knowledge by:
- participating in various KM discussion forums such as KM4Dev, ActKM, Gurteen’s Google Group.
- writing KM articles in Google’s knol and the information and Knowledge Management Society (iKMS)’s publication.
- experimenting with social computing (web 2.0) tools
Roan Yong – the Investor

Roan is a passionate investor. He has been practising value investing, and buy and hold strategy since 2006. Today, he holds some unit trusts and index funds – which he doesn’t intend to sell until the bull market is back.
He admired and followed the teaching of Benjamin Graham, Warren Buffett, Burton G.Markiel, and Jim Rogers.
Roan Yong – the Christian
The difference among various denominations is man made. It is an issue of classification, i.e. what should be included as the teachings of Jesus Christ. – Roan Yong, 2005.
Roan was born in a Christian family. Although, he went to Catholics school for his pre-school and primary level education, he is a Christian Protestant. In his life, he has followed several denominations: Methodist, Reformed, and Charismatic.
Believing that the difference among various major denominations is insignificant, he is a member of Reformed Evangelical Church, but regularly visits City Harvest Church.
